A fascinating feature of Peacockes is a replica of the cottage from the 1952 John Ford film "The Quiet Man," which starred John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. This film was made in the Maam Cross area, and many of the local people took part in the filming. The surrounding Connemara scenery features largely, and you will spot many familiar scenes within a short distance of Peacockes.

The film tells the story of Sean Thornton (John Wayne), an Irish-American boxer, who returns to his family home in the village of Inisfree, where he falls in love with a local girl (played by Maureen O'Hara), the sister of the village bully. After much excitement, the film ends with happiness for Sean and his new bride, Mary Kate. Peacockes regularly shows the film on the Big screen.

The interior of the cottage is a museum of the age before electricity and motorised transport, and is a tribute to a simpler, gentler age. It contains many genuine antiques from the turn of the century, and gives a good example of life in those days
