Taking
advantage of Peacockes' excellent location, the 66 foot high
viewing tower gives a wonderful vantage point from which to
cast an eye over the splendours of the Connemara scenery.
With breathtaking views in every direction, this wide expanse
of natural beauty should be a welcome change for eyes that
are tired of looking at city streets.
Connemara
and the West have the most dramatic and unspoiled landscapes
in Ireland. From the top of the tower you can gaze out across
the lovely, lonely Maam Valley at moor, heather, streams,
and stone-wall fields. See the different shades of blue in
the lake, gold in the heather and the bluey-grey of the mountains
as the light changes.
After
descending from the tower, why not visit some of the local
beauty spots in person? Travel to the nearby Hill of Doon,
or take a tour round the shores of Lough Corrib. Or range
a bit further afield, to Achill Island, or the Coral Beach
at Carraroe.
Of
course, should the stark beauty of the countryside become
too overpowering, you can always balance it out with a visit
to Galway City, which is only an half-hour away
